Psycho III aiming for the 200 mph barrier

For those of you who missed the debut of Graeme and Wendy Cowin’s Psycho III AA/Fuel Altered at the Nostalgia Drags in November then you’re in for a real treat.

Cowin Family Racing will be running the car at Sydney Dragway’s Test and Tune on Saturday!

With the goal to run over 200 mph, Graeme Cowin and partner Wendy hope to at least equal the 207 mph the car ran in AA/Fuel Altered in the 1970’s.

While the husband and wife team sold the original car to build up the business that was eventually to become Rocket Industries, a love of Fuel Altereds (Psycho III was, as the name suggests the third in a line of Altereds) eventually led them back to their roots.

While this is a replica of the car the rebuild has been as true to the original as possible from the paint scheme to the early 392 Chrysler/Hemi-style motor. The few upgrades that have been made due to advances and changes in safety include the rear end, drive shaft, roll cage and wheels.

The first official running on the “new” Psycho III saw the car run a best ET of 7.50. That may be slightly better than the 7.60 from the 1970s. however the Cowins know there’s still more in the “mph” department. To beat the car’s record breaking speeds of the 1970’s would not only complete the most anticipated re-build of any drag car, it would also be one of the best birthday presents Graeme Cowin could wish for!

So make sure you’re at Sydney Dragway for this Saturday’s Test and Tune to cheer the team on, wish Graeme a happy birthday and admire one of drag racing’s most treasured legendary vehicles.

Also John Culmone will be debuting his stunning new B/Gas Pontiac in readiness for the next Rocket Allstars Racing Series round here in March.

Other cars of interest will be Frank Mamone’s awesome black Chevy Nova along with Geoff Gradden’s Chrysler Saratoga Top Doorslammer.

Of course there wil be plenty of turbo action form the likes of PAC Performance and Soldatic brothers.

Also  Peter Pisalidis is bringing his awesome 200mph twin turbo Camaro up from Victoria!

And this is just a few  that we know about who knows what will show up on the day!

If you’ve never been to a Test and Tune before, these events are a great opportunity to see and meet your favourite racers in a more relaxed environment.

It is an entertaining day for spectators and a great chance to check out some of the new and updated Race Cars and Bikes competing in the 2011/2012 Drag Racing season. There is always some one trying something new and different to try and get the edge on their competition.
