Thompson satisfied with speed

WA’s Troy Thompson says progress on his turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa Modified Bike has been far quicker than expected since hitting the track earlier this season.

Already he has run as quick as 8.43sec. and as fast as 263kmh on the two wheeled missile which produces over 400 horsepower at the back wheel.

Thompson said the build took about three years and he made sure that the best of equipment was used on the motorcycle.

“We used Wossner rods and pistons, an RCC turbo, Tial wastegate and blow off valve and a Hays six arm pro street clutch,” he said.

The bike has had involvement from a number of top level competitors. The motor was built by national Comp Bike champion Ross Smith and was tuned by newly crowned WA State Comp Bike champion Brett Ghedina with a Link ECU.

“We were hoping the bike would be running somewhere around the 8.5sec. range at around 160mph (260kmh) by the time we had it sorted, but it was almost running that at our first time out which was really exciting for the team,” Thompson said. “Looking at the data we still have more in it, we’ve only just started putting power in and making the clutch more aggressive so we are hoping to maybe dip our toes into the 8.2sec. zone.

“We have plans in the future to upgrade the combo and head for the 7sec barrier and maybe step up to Comp Bike (from Modified Bike).”
