There was plenty of concern for Justin Simpson following a serious hit to the wall at the Lights Out event at Willowbank Raceway on Saturday but the good news is he has now been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.
Simpson was driving Michael ‘Gup’ Gilbert’s Camaro when the car got loose and crossed lanes, hitting the opposite wall. Emergency teams took a long time extracting Simpson from the car, with concerns about his back.
Justin’s wife Lauren said Justin was discharged from hospital on Monday afternoon.
“He’s nursing a couple of broken ribs, a broken shoulder blade and a small tear to the lung with a bunch of bruises,” she said.
“The doctors and medical staff are amazed at how good a job the safety gear he was wearing did. (The safety gear) prevented far worse injuries.
“We have been humbled by the hundreds of messages since Saturday and thank everyone for their support.”
