Former Australian and NHRA Top Alcohol champion Steve Harker was taken to hospital following a qualifying crash in his Top Alcohol Funny Car at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio.

Harker’s Camaro funny car smoked the tyre and turned hard right narrowly missing the car in the other lane fortunately before impacting hard on the right barrier.

Harker was alert, conscious and responding to commands from Safety Safari after the crash, and was transported via air to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio for further evaluation.

An update from team via their Facebook page states. “Steve had a bit of a run in with the wall today in the third qualifying run. He is doing ok, but will be in hospital for a couple of days as he has a couple of broken ribs and a collapsed lung.”

“He is in good spirits and doing ok, otherwise it will take little while for him to mend and work out why it happened. Thanks for the well wishes and messages from everyone.”

Drag News Magazine wishes Steve all the best in recovery.
