Queensland race fans will get a taste of nitro with the confirmation the Aeroflow Nitro Hot rods of Wendy and Graeme Cowin will be debuting at Willowbank Raceways Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Drags & Hot Rod Reunion, August 14.

Leading the charge at Willowbank will be the famous “Psycho”, a re-creation of one of Graeme and Wendy’s earliest racecars.

Psycho has recently undergone an extensive re-build and is in absolute show quality condition, this however hasn’t stopped driver Shane Olive taking the short wheelbase nitro-Hemi powered hot rod to a best of 6.21-seconds down the quarter mile at over 370km/h at the finishing stripe.

Olive is quick to point out how wild these cars can be, “Driving these cars you just have to be on your game all the time, you have to fight them all the way down the race track, but because they don’t have as much down force as say a funny car you can’t fight them too hard as that’s when they will bite you. It’s a really fine line.”

Shane continued, “We have only made a few runs with the new set-up, so we will be looking to continue to develop this iconic car further.”

Completing this side-by-side match race will be Rick Gauci, driving the team’s other car, Berzerk. Producing over 3500 horsepower, Berzerk has been quick from the moment it debuted just over a year ago, with a PB of a 6.06-seconds at 391km/h (243 mph).

Gauci will be looking to stretch this little altereds legs at Willowbank for the first time. “I have done plenty of laps down Willowbank Raceway but never in a nitro hot rod, so I am really looking forward to getting up to this great facility and putting on a show for the crowd!”

Having not raced either car at Willowbank before the team will have to make some adjustments for the different surface. Olive concluded, “Yes, we will need to make some set up changes but we are confident we can put on some fast side by side passes.”

The Cruzin’ Magazine Nostalgia Drags and Hot Rod Reunion at Willowbank Raceway August the 14 is set to be a very cool day out with a cool line up of nostalgia drag cars, a show and shine, swap meet, trade stands and even a hot rod Parade.
