South Coast Raceway started its 2010/2011 season with a record breaking number of entrants, complimenting all the hard work that has been done during the off season by club members and volunteers.

Commencing Friday night, 46 cars entered legal off-street drag racing with many cars also opting to enter the burnout competition at the end of the night, keeping the crowd of 404 people entertained. First place in the Burnout competition was taken out by Ben Phillips, second Daniel Paige and third was Trevor Newton.

A crowd of 800 on Saturday witnessed another 74 cars enter for the Victorian Sportsman Shootout, which was run in a Chicago shootout style format.

With the new track upgrades nearly complete, Marcus Chambers put his new Premix King Monaro Top Doorslammer through its paces. Marcus ended up with a 5.312 pass crossing the line at only 118mph shutting it off at half track. While he was only running very low boost while testing, he certainly was a crowd favourite and a great preview for the upcoming Top Doorslammer meeting planned for February.

The whole day was run smoothly and the weather was very kind for the season opener. The only minor accident involving a bike rider who came off at 200km/h. Luckily he walked away with one sore shoulder and soft tissue damage. While this put the day behind schedule, competitor safety is held in high regards by South Coast raceway.
