Competition drag racing makes a comeback this Saturday at Hidden Valley Drag Strip as part of the 2014 Season Opener.

After the traditional Wet Season break plenty of teams are eager to get out to the Valley in what will be the first competition round of the season.

One new car to hit the track is the supercharged altered of Adam Murrihy, we reported earlier this year Murrihy will be stepping up from his shoebox size A&M Cranes Standard 10 into the new altered which is powered by a 526ci Keith Black supercharged V8.

Murrihy ran at Sydney Dragway in March completing his familiarisation passes in the new car with a best time of 6.772 at 199mph, a sizable jump from his normal nine second passes in the old car. While he will have a steep learning curve ahead at his home track he is keen for the challenge that lies ahead.

“I’ve been running the Standard 10 for a number of years and it’s a crazy car to drive, but when the opportunity came to upgrade I couldn’t help but want to go faster,” said Murrihy.

“With Hidden Valley being home to plenty of fast cars I was confident the capability of the new car wouldn’t go to waste.”

Murrihy will be joined by a suite of local racers including Top Sportsman, Super Sedan, Modified Bikes as well as street cars and bikes.

Gates open 1:30pm with qualifying throughout the afternoon and feature racing kicking off at 6pm.

Adults are $20, kids under 13 are free.
