In a statement released today Sydney Dragway has confirmed it will commit to paying a minimum 50% prize money for the upcoming Australian NationalsOctober 31 to November 2, 2014.

The rest of the statement goes on to read:

The previous graduated prize-money scale was issued at rates of 100%, 75%, 50% and 25% depending on crowd numbers but Sydney Dragway have committed to 50% as a baseline payout in a show of good faith for the competitor group.

110% of prize-money will again be paid if the expected crowd numbers are exceeded. The scaled prize money rates were originally set to avoid the tracks going into the red if weather and crowds were not favourable.

Sydney Dragway General Manager, Luke Smith, added “This is a good start to help the competitor group understand we are trying to look after their interests.”

“We’d obviously like to pay full prize money at every opportunity and we’d like nothing more than to top crowd numbers and pay the 110%,” concluded Mr Smith.
