Adelaide’s Mark Boxer has almost completed a radical transformation of a humble tradie ute into a ballistic race car.

Originally planned just to be a sweet ride for the streets, Boxer has gone overboard as one step lead to another.

“The car, as most are, was originally just going to be a cool street car with a turbo on the factory engine,” he said. “That soon turned to a Barra swap, then I cut the back end out of it.”

The Barra straight six has become famous in tuning circles for its ability to hold big horsepower and Boxer will be putting that to the test along with Atomic Performance Products, hoping to make over 1000 horsepower.

Combined with a TH400 gearbox, billet MV Automatics clutches, a new billet TCE Barra convertor and Currie Enterprises nine inch, there should be no troubles putting this combo down the track under power.

“I’m not going to predict numbers. It should be fast, but to be honest I just want to drive it,” Boxer said. “I would love to get it to events like Jamboree and Grudge Kings.”

The ute has been a rather laborious build for Boxer, who frequently pops up at automotive events around the country as a cameraman.

“Eight years later the car has survived the world’s worst panel shop, four house moves, four job changes, a divorce and a relocation interstate. 2017 is the year that it’ll finally make angry noises!”
