Street Outlaws heads for climax – round 6 and 7 report

The Calder Park Street Outlaws series is in the home stretch with just two more qualifying rounds left before the finale when champions will be crowned. Rounds six and seven are now history and there has been some turbulence at the top of the lists as the main contenders continue to trade blows.

At round six the number one Street Outlaw slot was reclaimed by Daniel Sharban in his very tidy Capri, a monster wheelstand kept the crowd entertained yeconsistent elapsed times still flowed with a string of 8.6 runs belting out an 8.63 at 159mph best to set the benchmark even higher. With E.T’s now well into the eight second zone it is game on for all competitors as qualifying nears completion.

John Stoumbas and his Cortina arrive to make a mark, and left it with an impressive 9.68 at 152mph to put him on the list heading into the pointy end of the season.

A couple of regulars brought our their HSV’s again, with Noel Pzcierzug running a best of a 10.91 to just miss improving on his best from last time of a 10.89. Pzcierzug was running head to head with close mate Peter Morris who did improve on his personal best with a 11.17.

Warren Holmes was out for a skid in his XD Falcon, improving on every pass of the night to eventually finish it off with an 11.49 at 120mph.

Heading into round seven we would see the Street Outlaw cars throw down with the participants of Street Machine’s Drag Week (more on that in another story), with full staging lanes the crowds had gathered to watch the action really heat up.

After driving hundreds of miles in the Drag Week Challenge, Street Outlaw regular and favourite Quentin Feast with his super neat twin turbo Torana posted a stout 8.59 at 161mph to take back the coveted number one.

Arty Roumbos finally brought out his ‘TUFXYY’ to run an impressive 9.48 at 143mph on debut, sprouting a fresh 440ci engine combo and running full street trim, this XY turned many heads with its performance.

The Zito boys were out again with Dom behind the wheel but he was unable to improve on his son’s best, Dom posted a 9.87 with the 400ci cube Torana.

A number of competition cars also took advantage to throw down some test laps.

With the next round of Street Outlaws on Friday 7th of November, time is running out to qualify so if you want to prove what you’ve got you better hurry.
