Bray versus Bray in Adelaide

After a 10 year absence from Adelaide International Raceway the sound of a Top Doorslammer made its long awaited return. Team Bray spent three days prior to the event promoting at different venues around Adelaide.

After few hours’ delay due to rain, racing got underway at 12.30 and by the time the Top Doorslammer hit the track at 2.30 the sky was blue and with 15,000 fans it was standing room only.

In the 1st round Victor recorded a 4.42 second pass, with Ben stopping the clocks at 4.54. Following changes to fuel and suspension prior to the 2nd round, both Victor and Ben improved with a 4.29 and a 4.33 and this meant a Team Bray final affair.

Victor headed into the final with confidence as he had recorded the faster time, but Benny “The Kid” had saved his best until last. Not only beating his father by 2 hundreds of a second (4.22 to 4.24), he also recorded the fastest pass of the meeting.

Victor Bray:-
“Well that was a great weekend of racing in South Australia. There are times in Drag Racing when all the work involved, late nights and the ever-present costs of staying competitive seem to be overwhelming and you sometimes ask yourself “Why do I keep doing this?”

The results we attained in Adelaide answered that question for us. When you have a good weekend at the track, record breaking performances, final round appearances and a weekend of fun with your family and race team, it is not only worth all the effort but gives a real sense of satisfaction.

Thanks to Rodney Jane for making the facility available and also to Rino D’Alfonso who has made some great improvements to the venue. Rino is a passionate drag racer turned promoter who has put a great package together. All I can say is – guys a great week end.”

Ben Bray:-
“A Bray verses Bray final how good is that? I am sure the worst nightmare for the rest of the Doorslammer field, probably even me on this occasion. Dad had recorded faster times all day and I really did not want to hear about it all over Christmas. He actually got a better start than I did, but thank goodness I got it at the end. I would like to say a big thank you to all concerned. The fans who turned up and sat in the rain and waited for the sun to shine, I really hope you enjoyed the show and we can get to do it all again soon.”
