‘Pistol Pete’ happy to support the neighbours

Calder Park promoter and Competition Eliminator competitor Peter Pisalidis is looking forward to round nine of the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship at Mildura Sunset Strip on September 13-14, not just to race but to “take a load off”.

Not only does Pisalidis see it as an opportunity to focus on racing instead of promoting, it’s also an opportunity to visit one of his neighbours and support their event.

“When a a track and especially a region hosts a points round it’s a massive commitment, a resource drain and risk bringing the national competition to Mildura,” he said. “Supporting a fellow track and ‘putting the shoe on the other foot’ was a no brainer for me.

“I am a big believer that we all need to do our part in supporting the viability of the sport at all levels, and that is why I make sure I get to every event I possibly can, which is difficult when you run a race track.”

So far Pisalidis’ calendar has included championship stops at South Coast Raceway in Portland Victoria, the 10.5 race in Adelaide, a win at the X-Champs in Sydney and an appearance at the Fuchs Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway.

While this won’t be the first time Pisalidis has raced in Mildura, it is the first time the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship comes to town and he urges both competitors and spectators to visit the Sunraysia region.

“People don’t appreciate the importance of a healthy entrant list for a track/promoter leading up to an event, and I can’t emphasise it enough on the stress it puts on the promoter and confidence to the public as race date approaches.

“So give the people that put the races on some confidence leading up to continue on with promoting and not stressing about racer numbers, field sizes, categories, etcetera.

“From a racer point of view the regional tracks like Mildura and Portland always have a great atmosphere and make everyone feel welcome. I’m more than glad to walk the talk and support especially when I expect the same.”
