Positive news from Indianapolis Raceway Park – every Australian and Australian team who has hit the track has qualified for race day!

After more rain delays on Sunday morning, the sun came out and actually resulted in a warm afternoon where most competitors were unable to improve on their Saturday times.

Shane Tucker was outside the top 12 coming into Sunday meaning his earlier times did not count but thankfully a solid 6.637 put him into the show at 14th and he will face Shane Gray in the first round of eliminations. Amazingly the difference from first to 14th on the ladder was less than five hundredths of a second.

In other Australian news, Steve Harker did not improve from his Saturday time and dropped a position as John Lombardo Jr slotted into second spot. Top Alcohol Funny Car’s last qualifying session was bumped into the night due to rain delays.

After his runner up in the Traxxas Shootout yesterday, Richie Crampton was arguably the class of the field on the final day of qualifying. He ran under 3.8 seconds on both passes, even in the heat – a feat no other driver could match. Crampton will race Billy Torrence in round one and has lane choice.
“The Geico Top Fuel team is doing a fantastic job,” he said. “We’ve got a fresh race car we just brought out and it’s responding well and running really good out there. Whether it’s a cold track, hot track, it seems to respond well and that makes me very confident going into race day.”

Dom Lagana didn’t improve on his 3.78 from Saturday, with the team tossing a blower belt in the first Sunday session and then smoking the tyres in the second. If there is a downside to the team’s strong qualifying performance it is that they will race points leader Doug Kalitta in round one, though they do have lane choice.

Bob Bode lit things up in Funny Car qualifying but thankfully the fire was out quickly and the independent driver made it into the race day show.

Robert Hight and Courtney Force fought out a pedal fest in the semi finals of the Funny Car Traxxas Shootout, Hight taking the win.

Australian visitor Ron Capps thunders towards the finish line. Yesterday Capps won the delayed Brainerd final, but he was out in the first round of the Traxxas Shootout.
