Jet Car Max wrapped up on Friday night at Perth Motorplex, five days later than anticipated following a power outage last Sunday that forced the event to be continued at a later time.

Racers who were still contesting eliminations were given the chance to make one test hit to get adapted to the track and then it was game on with racing resuming from where it left off.

Surprisingly many fans were back for the continuation, getting three more rounds of jet dragsters and Top Comp to get a pretty good bang for buck on their entry.

While it has been tough on racers to turn around cars and bikes very quickly, with the pace continuing this weekend for the next national open in Perth, it was generally agreed in the pits that the Motorplex made the right call to keep the event going.

The jet dragsters were the main attraction again and did the right things in terms of the fire show. After some very serious incidents with the jet cars in recent years at Perth Motorplex, they have been slowed down somewhat to run in the high fives at about 280mph on a full pass. Chuck Haynes’ experience allowed him to make full runs, with rookie Rhiannon Allison going close to full track on two out of her three passes. Pieter De Wit was clicking off before 1000 feet on each of his passes.

Shane Weston won Top Comp, going 5.63 and 5.65 in the cool night conditions. However on his test run at V2, tyre shake afflicted the car. Check out the way the rattle has lifted the front end of the car off the ground.

John Zappia followed up his 5.71 in V1 with a 5.74 at V2, giving the team plenty of confidence as they head into the opening round of the ANDRA Top Doorslammer championship this weekend. The wheelstands are also great for photographers!

Kendrick Poole’s licensing is going great guns. He is already into the 5.8s and looking like a veteran. Aaron Deery will be back in the car for the Top Alcohol round at the Westernationals.

Sam Gullotto had reason to smile with a couple of 7.0 passes from the 500 cube Pontiac.

Jamie Chaisty in the family H/MSA Commodore seems almost unbeatable at the moment in Super Comp, with a package very capable of going under the national record and the consistency of a low nine second combo.

Ross Smith ran an 8.14 in the final of Competition Bike to be well under the C/AB record. Though we can’t find it in the results sheets we think we heard he went 8.13 on his test pass early in V2 as well!

Daniel Natalotto was also in PB territory with a 9.14 on the B/SB BMW.

Jon Ferguson wrapped up his second win in as many events in his Supercharged Outlaws Funny Car.

Sam Treasure was also enjoying his second win from two events. He ran out a series of tough races under the watchful eye of father Darryl and uncle Ray.

Martin Mirco increased his Super Sedan WA championship points lead with a win against Shane O’Sullivan.

Michael Macri was just politely doing his own thing in Modified Bike and it paid off with a win. Opponent Justin Townson broke out in the final round.

Richard Stevens picked up the win in Super Street thanks to a break out from Nicholas Wroe.

A unique match up occurred in Super Street as the two ‘Tango’ cars got to line up against each other under the lights, and under their lights!

Bailey McClure closed the points gap to Katrina Bowman ever so slightly by defeating her in the final of Junior Dragster.
