The 2015/2016 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series could be the year Craig Geddes lifts another championship trophy if history repeats itself on the 10 year and 20 year anniversaries of his first and second national championships.

“We previously won a championship in Super Gas in 1995/96 and Competition Eliminator in 2005/06,” he said. “So it looks like every 10 years we make it happen, maybe this is the year?”

Geddes narrowly missed out on a national Competition Eliminator championship for the second year in a row last month in a winner take all semi final showdown against defending champion Alistair McClure.

Unfortunately for the Victorian he was eliminated from the event and the title race when he left the start line before the green light, allowing West Aussie McClure to clinch the championship in front of a 35,000 strong crowd.

“Achieving an Australia #2 is something we are very proud of, we perform our own engine builds and we have been able to run times to a world standard,” explained Geddes.

“Our tiny 283 cubic inch Chevy V8 produces almost 800 horsepower and revs to 10,300 rpm as it screams down the quarter mile in 7.11 seconds at 186 mph, the acceleration is something else going from 0-100km/h in one second.”

Geddes will now reload and try to get the jump on his rivals at the Desert Nationals season opener this weekend July 25-26 when he takes on the best in Competition and Super Stock in Super Comp.

“We are looking forward to the new season and hope to improve on this year’s performances, a huge thank you must go to team partner Rob Martin, crew chief Daryl Hepworth, our families and our sponsors.

“This will be our second trip to Alice Springs, we love racing there equally as much as Portland, Mildura and the other regional style events. It’s great to showcase our vehicles in these regions, the fans absolutely love it.

“We pride ourselves on being a top five performer over a 20-year span regardless of which class we race. Currently we are preparing our combinations to ensure we position ourselves at seasons end to be competitive.”

Fans at Alice Springs Inland Dragway can expect Geddes’ dragster to cover the eighth-mile strip in the mid four second zone following a 7.11 second effort at the Winternationals over the full quarter-mile.

“We were shocked to run 7.11 at the Winternationals, we felt a high teen would likely be the limit using the small engine.

“We now have a better handle on realising the true potential and will be looking at the A/D, B/D and E/D classes as we move towards the future.

“The sport is currently going through an amazing transformation at present and we are excited to be a part of it.”

The best in Australian sportsman racing descend on Alice Springs Inland Dragway for Round 1 of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series at the 2015 Desert Nationals July 25-26.

Qualifying begins from 11am on Saturday July 25 and eliminations commence from 11am Sunday July 26. For more information and ticket prices please visit www.cadra.com.au.
