More than 400 mopar machines are expected to hit Willowbank Raceway on Sunday 4 August for the 11th annual Mopar Sunday, which in 2013 is being presented by Northstar Fiat Chrysler.

The event will allow enthusiasts to not only watch and participate in on-track action but also enjoy a range of off-track events including a dyno shootout, a large ‘show n shine’ sponsored by Surf City Garage, merchandise stands and a swap meet.

Open to every kind of Mopar – from brand new machines to restored or original showpieces, dedicated drag cars, modified street cars, stock rides and even 7000 horsepower Nitro Funny Cars – Mopar Sunday is all about celebrating everything that is Mopar and Chrysler.

Leading the way on August 4 will be one of last year’s crowd favourites, Christine Steffens, who is returning for her second Mopar Sunday. As the first and only licensed female Nitro Funny Car driver in Australia, she will be racing her supercharged 496 cubic inch Hemi powered Nitro Funny Car down the strip travelling at over 450 kilometres per hour.

“I am really looking forward to getting on track for my second Mopar Sunday next weekend – I am literally counting the sleeps!” said Steffens, who set her Personal Best elapsed time of 5.26 seconds at the 2012 Mopar Sunday event.

“During my first appearance at the event in 2012 I was blown away by the scale of the show and the enthusiasm of the spectators, and was very excited to run my first full quarter-mile pass after licensing in The Lockyer Engine Reconditioners ‘Croc’ Nitro Funny Car.

“Living just half an hour from the Willowbank Raceway track, I am really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel so close to home and putting on a show for the local spectators.

“Mopar Sunday is just one of those special events which brings together a whole array of fans who just love what we do, and it really makes me feel good to be able to put a smile on their faces, especially the kids – they love the ‘crocodile’ and it is so much fun to see them getting a buzz out of what we do.”

Mopar Sunday organizer Sam Tatton said plans for the 11th annual Mopar Sunday were heating up with the official website – www.moparsunday.com – the place to go for all the updates.

“Whether your particular love is for the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Valiant, Charger, DeSoto, Plymouth, Ram, Dodge Truck, Fargo, AMC, Eagle or any of the other wonderful Mopar-powered machines out there, you can bring it to Willowbank Raceway for Mopar Sunday and run it down Willowbank Raceway’s quarter-mile against your fellow Mopar enthusiasts,” said Tatton.

“Mopar Sunday is all about celebrating these great machines and providing a relaxed day for likeminded enthusiasts.

“As well as the on-track racing, test n tune and dial your own bracket racing, there is also the Surf City Garage Show and Shine hosted by the Queensland Chrysler Association (QCA) – those wanting to compete just need to follow the QCA show signs at the track to place their US, Aussie, classic or modern Mopar in the roped off area adjacent to the start line.

“With all day drag racing, a dyno shootout, a huge ‘show n shine’, a swap meet, merchandise stands and trade stalls on site Mopar Sunday gives attendees plenty of opportunity to check out all of the action, pick up some memorabilia, find that part you’ve been looking for or just catch up with fellow Mopar enthusiasts.”

Spectator tickets including access to the Show and Shine and swap meet are just $25 (children 13 and under gain free entry) and are now available online at www.moparsunday.com or for purchase at the gate. Racing entry is $65 for pre-entry or $85 at the gate, while Dyno Shootout entry is $25 (not including gate admission). Gates open at 7.00am for an 8.00am start with an estimated finish of 4.00pm. Entry forms and further information can be found at www.moparsunday.com
