With just days until the much anticipated two-day Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Nationals at Willowbank Raceway (Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 August), entries have now closed with 158 machines of yesteryear signing on for the popular event.

As well as drag racing for the Leahy Custom Imports Top Eliminator (6.60), Quick Eliminator (7.60), Donnelly Blasting Services Mid Eliminator (8.60), Shannons Insurance Super Eliminator (9.60), Vintage Gas (10.50 and slower), Nostalgia DYO, Retro Bikes and Nostalgia Super Stock brackets, the Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Nationals will also host the introduction of a Trans-Tasman Challenge, with ten racers set to protect their country’s honour over the two days.

Willowbank Raceway Acting President Tony Wedlock said the Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Nationals will offer the fans something special at Willowbank Raceway this weekend.

“The atmosphere of the Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Drags events at Willowbank Raceway is just something really special, laid-back with a real focus on family, nostalgia and the great cars of times past,” said Wedlock.

“With this weekend’s event held over two big days I am expecting to see the excitement upped even further, especially when you consider the introduction of the Australia versus New Zealand concept, which should definitely pique the interest of fans and racers alike.

“With plenty to see and do both on and off the track and children aged 13 and under gaining free entry and adult tickets just $25.00 while students with ID can purchase tickets for just $20.00, the stage is set for plenty of family fun this weekend at Willowbank Raceway!”

This August at Willowbank Raceway’s two-day Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Nationals, race fans can expect to get even more bang for their buck with the introduction of a Trans-Tasman Challenge to the popular event.

After five years of seeing Aussie racers jet over to New Zealand to compete, in 2013 with the help of Australian drag racing identity John Fleming no less than five Kiwi competitors will hit the Willowbank quarter-mile to take on five Aussie representatives for this weekend’s Trans-Tasman Challenge as part of the Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Nationals.

Lining up for New Zealand will be Mark Vincent, Karl Boniface, Craig Mullen, Richard McCarthy and Alex Hogg; while John Fleming, Peter Leahy, Marcus Paige, Greg Ward and Peter Merrigan will fly the flag for the Australians (see below for scheduled match-ups).

As a ‘team’ points-based format, the competitors will undertake five match races with points awarded for wins and losses, with the total points tally at the end of the two days to decide which team will be awarded as the winners of the 2013 Challenge.
