80 plus junior speedsters to light up Willowbank this weekend

The Cosmic Enterprises Junior Dragster Challenge, this Saturday June 5, has secured in excess of 80 eight to seventeen year olds for the special juniors-only event.
With 82 entries the event is proving itself as a premier event for the Junior category in only its second year, with 31 interstate competitors from all across Australia set to take part alongside 51 Queenslanders. Junior Dragsters race over a standing start 200 metre distance rather than the traditional quarter-mile but still reach speeds in excess of 120kph.

Cosmic Enterprises Junior Dragster Challenge director Rod Oberg said the event was shaping up to be a real barn-burner ahead of the largest drag racing event of the year.

“With 82 entrants and their families set to take part it’s grown by more than 30% over last year and we are just blown away by how the junior racing community has embraced this event, and we are truly excited to see the kids get on track this weekend,” said Oberg.

“We will have two hours of qualifying in the morning before all of the kids get to race all day, including boys versus girls, age bracket racing and a general ‘all-in’ event – providing them with a full day of racing in a relaxed and fun atmosphere at an event just for them.

“It’s also a great event for families thinking about getting involved in Junior Dragsters to come to and see what it’s all about.

“The event is run on a non-profit basis with all sponsorship going to provide prizes, gift bags, catering and entertainment for the competitors and their family, a concept that was started at our first event in 09 and proved just by looking at the faces of our competitors and their families at the end of their big day out.”

The challenge is organised by Cosmic Enterprises and is strongly supported by Willowbank Raceway and Lifestyle Australia.

The Cosmic Enterprises Junior Dragster Challenge will hit Willowbank Raceway this Saturday from 8.00am as part of the lead-up to next weekend’s Castrol EDGE Winternationals before the pre-event activities continue on Sunday June 6 with the official Winters Warm-Up event, which gives event entrants the chance to get some valuable testing ahead of the largest drag racing event outside of the US.

The Castrol EDGE Winternationals is the largest drag racing event outside of North America and is expected to host around 500 racers at the season-ending event.

The Thursday June 10 to Sunday June 13 event will host the championship ANDRA Pro Series final rounds for Top Fuel, Top Alcohol, Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Morgan & Wacker Top Bike and Morgan & Wacker Pro Stock Bike as well as final championship rounds for all of the sportsman brackets.
