One of the most iconic Japanese drag cars of all time makes its Australian debut on August 26 and 27, as the former HKS-backed JZA80 Toyota Supra competes in a star-studded Pro Turbo lineup at the Honeywell Garrett Jamboree.

Owned and driven by diehard Japanese drag racer and expert import spanner-man Koji Yamaguchi, the team are looking to beat the car’s PB of 6.8sec, set in the USA with the previous twin-turbo Toyota V8 engine.

Now packing 3.2 litres of Garrett GT5533 Gen2-boosted Toyota 2JZ, Koji has his sights firmly set first on beating the car’s best time in Japan of 7.0sec before focus shifts to the car’s outright personal best.

That giant Garrett turbocharger and the stroked six-cylinder its attached to are managed by a Link ECU, with power sent to the giant rear Hoosier tyres via a Liberty five-speed transmission.

Koji joins a solid field of 12 Pro Turbo cars as part of an epic Jamboree entry list that is quickly approaching 200 of the fastest sport compact drag cars in the country.
