Team Bray Racing has enjoyed the MacTrack Westernationals as part of the greatest Pro Slammer field of all time at the weekend.

With a bump-spot of just 5.877s, it was the quickest Pro Slammer field to date. TBR would claim the 4th (Frankie Taylor) and 6th (Ben Bray) spots on the ladder ahead of Sunday’s eliminations, where Bray would bow out in the first round while Taylor would make it to the semi-finals against eventual event winner Paul Mouhayet.

“My weekend started off really well with a 5.822s pass at 398.35kmh (247.52mph) in Q1, but unfortunately a lock-up issue with the clutch saw us having to install a new converter and miss Q2,” Ben Bray explained.

“We were back in action for Q3 but were unable to improve our time, however we were still happy with where we were at as part of such an incredible field of Pro Slammers.

“Come race day, things didn’t pan out so well for us with Sam Fenech besting us with a 5.822s pass at 397.06kmh (246.72mph) over our 5.906s pass at 398.96kmh (247.90mph).

“Sam was just too good for us on the day, but we had a lot of fun being part of such an exciting field of ‘Slammers and it was a privilege to be able to put on a show for the Perth fans.”

For Frankie, Saturday just got better and better, before Sunday hosted a semi-final showdown against Mouhayet.

“Day one of the Westernationals was really exciting for us – we ran 5.971s in the first qualifier followed by a 5.792s effort in Q2. Finally, Q3 saw us lay down a 5.748s pass at 404.58kmh (251.39mph), which snared us fourth spot in what was a very competitive field,” Frankie explained.

“Round one saw us take on and defeat Mark Belleri with a 5.836s pass at 404.25kmh (251.18mph), and then we went to the semi-final against Paul Mouhayet who beat us to the punch with a 5.674s pass at 413.15kph (256.71mph) over our 5.786s effort at 406.05kph (252.30mph).

“We weren’t laying down, we gave it everything we had, but Paul was just on the money. The weekend really belonged to him and Moits Racing – he was the top qualifier, national MPH record and track record holder and the first driver to ever break the 260mph barrier with a 260.96mph pass (419.97kmh), plus of course they took the event win over the local hero John Zappia – the whole outfit really deserves our congratulations and we look forward to taking them on again soon.”

Team Bray Racing will now prepare for the 90th Celebrations of sponsor Century Batteries on Friday in Brisbane, ahead of the Sydney Jamboree on Saturday the 17th of March.
