Drew changing Nitro Harley combination to stay competitive

Australia’s quickest Nitro Harley rider Mark Drew is ready to make a return to racing at the Perth Motorplex on November 10.

Drew has been very busy in the off season working to upgrade his championship-winning Top Fuel Motorcycle.

“We will be running the November 10, December 1 and December 15 events,” he said.

“We have been putting together a new engine and management combination since we raced last. The bike is now upgraded with all of the latest and greatest componentry available.

“I spoke to Mike Romine, and he won’t have all parts until the end on November, which means that we might have them in our bike by the meeting on December 15.

“This is the latest technology out of the USA – developed, trialled and tested by Mike Romine who leads the way in the world with the development of nitro Harleys.

“What I am doing is building a bike with a new motor and management system using the latest components, configuration and specs in the world that have been trialled and proven to be faster and more consistent. (Mike Romine’s) bike has the best engine combination and management system ever used in a nitro Harley. This combo runs 6.20s and 6.30s constantly in the USA.”

Drew has so far recorded a personal best time of 6.34 at over 230 mph (370 kmh) down the quarter mile, and is confident the new engine and management combination should be capable of going even quicker and more consistently, so that he can continue to keep leading the way in the Southern Hemisphere on his Nitro Harley.

“We looked at where we were at after last season, and decided it was time to upgrade several areas of the bike including the piston and crankshaft displacement to chase better and more consistent perfomances, and with the changes we have made, there is no reason that we can’t do that now,” he said.

Drew is looking forward to getting back to initially test the new combination as parts arrive from America, and then finding out a new baseline to work with so that he can be competitive in the elite Top Fuel Motorcycle bracket again.

“I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of my supporters and sponsors who have backed me. I couldn’t do this without the support from Perth Harley Davidson, Bruce Avery Transport, Brajkovich Demolition, Territory Power Sports, Adelaide Bikeworks, Mick Taylor Automatics, FHM Adult Shops, Mad Cats Tattoo Shop, Darren Crawly and Mac, and The Northampton Hotel.”
