Final round appearance opens season for Tyronne family

Tyronne Tremayne took home some good points in the opening round of the 400 Thunder Pro Stock season, despite not quite achieving the finish he wanted.

Qualifying started off with both Mega Fuels cars performing well, with Tyronne ending session one in second spot and brother Aaron in third. In the second round Aaron showed the way with an impressive 7.01/195mph to take over the number one spot. Tyronne was not so fortunate with a dead spark plug which resulted in an unrepresentative pass, and dropped to fourth position.

This would have a large impact on the team as the weather resulted in the third qualifying session being cancelled. If the brothers advanced through the first round they would have to face each other in the semi finals.

The first round saw Tyronne up against Bill Perdikaris, with Tyronne taking the win with a quick 7.01. Aaron was to race Rick Chilton, but Chilton was unable to make the first round, leaving Aaron on a bye – also running a 7.01.

The sibling semi saw no difference in reaction times but Aaron went into tyre shake and had to abort his run, giving Tyronne’s consistent 7.012 lane choice in the final against Chris Soldatos.

“The air had improved considerably since the semi finals and the team were looking at around a 6.95 pass,” team owner Kerry Tremayne said. “Chris had been running hot all weekend and Tyronne had to be on his game.

“Both cars edge forward, Chris goes straight into full stage, Tyronne edges forward and brings the pre-stage beam on before going through his normal staging routine, but underestimated how fast seven seconds can go. He gets timed out and shuts down as Chris runs away with the win and a 7.00 to take ET points for the meeting.

“The only disappointment was not being able to contest the final, win or lose it would have been a great race.

“A big thanks to our crew we were one down this weekend and still did it style.”
