ANDRA developing expanded track line up

The Australian National Drag Racing Association Limited (ANDRA), the organisation delegated by CAMS as the governing body for drag racing in Australia, has announced the development of an increased and improved national calendar for the ANDRA Pro Series and Rocket Allstars Racing Series.
Senior ANDRA management have been in talks with venues from around Australia regarding national events being conducted in areas that have not seen ANDRA championship racing for some time. This may include sanctioning of 1000ft and 1/8 mile championship racing at facilities not suited to quarter mile competition.

ANDRA CEO Greg Humphreys said ANDRA had a duty to provide its members with the best possible opportunities for drag racing right around the country.

“We have to take the best drag racing products we have (the ANDRA Pro Series and Rocket Allstars Racing Series) to as many states, cities and towns as possible,” he said.

“We have a number of tracks who are looking to and will be able to run events immediately, which will give the racers more choice than ever and it will also mean more local opportunities for many, which means a reduction in costs.

“Improving the national reach of the sport opens up new markets for membership, sponsorship and media coverage.”

ANDRA are in negotiations with tracks in Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory to hold national championship rounds.

There have been rumours that an unsanctioned break-away competition may again be proposed in the near future. The ANDRA Board are in agreement that such a proposal would not be in the best interests of competitors or tracks during this critical period of building the sport.

“ANDRA is made up of a wide variety of members including competitors and ANDRA sanctioned facilities,” he said.

“The ANDRA Board is compelled to do the best job possible for those constituents. Our motivation is not financial or political, we simply want to put on the best possible racing in as many places as possible and we will continue to work towards that goal.”
