Following the teams recent trip to Adelaide Eighth Mile Centenary event, Grant and Debbie O’Rourke have decided to rebuild the ex-Croker/G-Force ’68 Camaro they purchased from Adam Croker but returning it with a brand new body style, a Pontiac Firebird from Tim McAmis Performance.
“It was great to be part of the action in Adelaide, we had a ball and it felt just like the old days, lots of people and lots of fun,” said Debbie O’Rourke.
“We bought Adam’s Camaro last year with the intention of one day rebuilding it, Adelaide inspired us to get a plan. So the body is on its way from the USA, the chassis is on the jig, and pending work commitments we’re planning to join the Pro Modified Australia team mid 2012 with the Top Doorslammer legal Firebird” she said.
In the meantime the now Queensland based Debbie and Grant O’Rourke will continue to contend the Top Alcohol Pro Series events with plans this year to also update their Top Alcohol Funny Car.
“Grant will be building me a new Funny Car chassis that will sport the carbon fibre Monte Carlo body that we’ve had for a number of years,” she said.
“Our current Camaro Funny Car is heavy compared to other front running Funny Cars in Top Alcohol. It needs to be at least 140lbs lighter to run in the .50 zone, so for her weight, the Camaro isn’t doing too bad!
“The way we figure it and because of the lull in racing events our priority is the Pontiac, followed closely by the Monte Carlo. That way we can hop between the two series events and maybe even run them at the same time once or twice a year, getting fun out of both but in different ways.
“It’ll be good to get back into a sedan again, Grant’s doing an excellent job of tuning, the crew is always having a crack and son Josh is old enough to be part of it, we’re looking forward to it all,” she said.
