The thundering nitro dragsters of the ANDRA Pro Series will return to Perth Motorplex on January 27 and 28 with a local driver looking to make an assault on the championship lead.

St James racer Damien Harris and his Best Tractor Parts Drag Racing team put some recent USA driving experience to good use when he won the last round of the series in December, also held in Perth.

Harris defeated the current points leader, Sydney’s Andrew Cowin, with a blistering 4.72sec time for the quarter mile (402m) that reached a top speed of 502kmh, in their last encounter and will need to put in a similar performance to overhaul Cowin’s 14 point advantage.

Several other contenders will be aiming to eliminate Harris come race day however including reigning Australian champion Darren Morgan, who is confident he has ridded his dragster of its gremlins.

Victorian carrot farmer Phil Lamattina will be on the scene with his Fuchs dragster, the former national champion a clear threat to the title following a top qualifying performance at the last round.

Another Western Australian in Ellenbrook’s Mark Sheehan will also line up and with assistance from USA crew chief John Smith wants to put himself among the fastest drag racers in Australia.

The event runs over two nights with qualifying on Friday, January 27 followed by eliminations on Saturday, January 28. The ANDRA Pro Series action of both nights starts at 6pm.

Tickets are available from $31 for general admission and can be purchased ahead of the event from motorplex.com.au or at the gate.
