Morgan on hussle for Nitro Champs win

ANDRA Pro Series Top Fuel points leader Darren Morgan is hoping a slow start to his season has now evaporated with a strong mid-season charge positioning the Mildura driver for a run at his third championship.

The AEG Powertools Top Fuel team took a hard fought win in Adelaide and the series now returns to quarter mile racing at Sydney Dragway in Eastern Creek.

“It’s great to hold the lead in the ANDRA Pro Series after what was a sluggish start to the year but there will be no resting for the team here as (Andrew) Cowin is right on our tail in the championship standings,” he said.

“This is the business end of the season and the AEG Powertools Top Fuel racing team has been outstanding in preparing me such a great car to challenge for the title once again this season.”

Morgan will be facing not only his championship rivals in Andrew Cowin, Damien Harris and Phil Lamattina but also USA invader and 2011 Fuchs Australian Nationals winner Cory McClenathan and returning three-times ANDRA Pro Series champion Phil Read, making for arguably the toughest field this season.

Providing support to give Morgan the extra boost he needs will be new associate partner Hedman Hussler Hedders, with Hedman vice president of sales and marketing Vic Wood welcoming the team to the brand.

“We have been looking for someone to work with in Australia for the past couple of years and I believe Darren Morgan has the right package for us,” he said. “You will find the same quality workmanship in the Hedders on Darren’s Top Fuel Dragster as you will find in every Hedman Hedder and we wish Darren the best of luck as he pursues his challenge of another ANDRA Top Fuel championship.”

The event is scheduled to include a diverse range of support attractions including kid’s rides, dodgem cars, jumping castles, face painters, clowns, arcade games, the Shannon’s Show and Shine, monster truck rides, drag boat and sprint car displays, the CUB Bar, traders – and even the Australian Defence Force will be there performing exhibition burnouts.

The Nitro Champs take place at Sydney Dragway, Ferrers Road, Eastern Creek on May 4-6 and feature the full ANDRA drag racing experience including Top Fuel, Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Top Alcohol, Top Bike and Pro Stock Motorcycle.
