Grima aims to go one better.

It’s been like a Pro Stock boot camp this week for Sydney racer Jason Grima with a week of testing and focused checks of his PC Group Ford Mustang.

Grima reached the final at the last round of the championship, also at Sydney Dragway, and said setting up early helped him focus on the job at hand.

“Setting up at the track just makes it easier to work on the car and have no distractions. It feels like boot camp with myself and the crew getting in shape for this weekend,” he said.

At the March ANDRA championship round, Grima qualified the PC Group 2010 Ford Mustang sixth with a solid 7.087 and then took wins over Lee Bektash, Aaron Tremayne and Michael Ali before falling to Shane Tucker with a mechanical failure causing the car to stumble off the line.

“Our PC Group Ford Mustang performed very well for our team and while a win was certainly within reach, the points we earned moved us into the top 10 of the championship,” he said. “With only two more rounds left for the 2011/12 season, it could be anyone’s and we’d like to think we are still in with a chance.

“We had actually hurt the motor that weekend in the first round so to take it to the final was a great effort by my brother James who put the Rick Watters-built engine back together again along with Jonathon and the crew, who all worked very hard and put in some late nights.”

As part of the boot camp week Grima took advantage of a testing opportunity on Wednesday. Grima said he wanted to scuff in some new tyres and also find a cure for a handling problem with the PC Group Ford Mustang.

“We made two runs today. The best run was a 7.08 and followed with a 7.11 and it looks like we have sorted out the chassis for this weekend,” he said.

The Nitro Champs take place at Sydney Dragway on May 4-6 and feature the full ANDRA drag racing experience including Top Fuel, Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Top Alcohol, Top Bike and Pro Stock Motorcycle.
