Australian Steve Harker has continued his run towards a Top Alcohol championship in the USA, taking out the bracket at Texas Motorplex over the weekend.

Harker closed the gap towards point leader Dale Brand, with just 44 points now separating the pair as the season reaches its tail end.

Harker began the 29th annual AAA Texas NHRA Nationals well with a second qualifying effort of 5.584 to sit behind number one John Lombardo Jr who carded an impressive 5.535.

A convincing win came in the first round with a low ET of the round 5.563 against Lance Van Hauen who crossed the centre line.

Harker’s times continued to drop in the quarter finals with a 5.557 to defeat the tough Tony Bartone and then a 5.555 win to Brian Hough’s 5.634 in the semi finals.

That set up a trophy round confrontation with number 12 qualifier Terry Ruckman. Ruckman got the holeshot but that was all, with a consistent 5.560 from Harker defeating a 5.702.
