Not a good night if you were a rotary

Rotary powered race cars always seem to traverse that fine edge to disaster with massive horsepower in something not much longer than a bath tub, such was the case at the last Full Thottle Friday of Sydney Dragway’s season with two racers stepping over that edge.

Fortunately both racers Chris Fakinos and Moey Obied walked away in the incidents on Friday night and hopefully will be back out soon.

Obied fortunately all but saved his RX7 with only a scuffed nose, but lucky not to turn turtle after breaking traction not far off the start line in the car’s return to the track after a testing accident a few months ago.

Chris Fakinos’ accident was extremely lucky that it was not more serious, narrowly missing the car in the opposing lane. The little R100 rode the centreline before losing traction and turning hard left, Fakinos managed to turn back right to miss the left hand wall but from then on he was just a passenger, impacting the right hand wall just in front of the VK Commodore in the other lane. Fakinos walked away from the accident and will be checked for possible fractured ribs, we do hope he will be cleared of any injuries and we will see that wild seven second R100 back out again.
