Porter returns trackside after 7 month drought

For Scott Porter and the Porters Can Do Pro Stock team, the 2010/2011 ANDRA Pro Series Pro Stock Season may not have been as eventful as they had liked. This has been due to business commitments that have kept them away from the racetrack. However, nonetheless, the performances that they have turned in have been impressive considering the amount of time that they have spent away from the racetrack.

This past weekend, April 8th and 9th, Scott Porter and the Porters Can Do team made a return to the racetrack. The team rounded out qualifying in the 12th position with a time of 7.175 seconds, well short of their personal best 7.05 second pass, which was turned in at the opening event of the 2010/2011 season to earn Scott’s first pole position of his career.

“Due to business commitments, we have had to turn our focus away from the racing team. I will be the first to admit that it’s good to be back in the seat. Since we raced last September, we just haven’t had the time to spend on the car. We believe that this is why we had been a little rusty, which had been evident in the car setup and my driving ability,” explained Scott Porter, driver of the Porters Can Do Ford Mustang Pro Stocker.

In the opening round of eliminations, Porter showed that he had his driving skills back up to scratch by recording a holeshot win over Bill Perdikaris 7.231 to Perdikaris’ 7.191.

The win equated to a second round match up with Dave Newcombe, who also works under the JB Automotive, Rooster Power banner. Newcombe defeated Porter 7.138 to Porters’ 7.172.

“It’s always tough to race a teammate in eliminations when it’s not a final round, but it’s a part of Drag Racing. Dave is a great guy and has a great team. The three teams, Newcombe, Barbagallo and ourselves are a close knit unit and we work well together. Looking at the bright side of things, we gained a lot of data this weekend and will put it to good use for the Nitro Champs in three weeks’ time,” concluded Porter.
