Meguiar’s Motorex is the most prestigious car show in Australia, all the bling from the countries, finest street machines and hot rods was on display at Sydney Olympic Park on July 23rd and 24th.
You must qualify for the show to be in the running for a Meguiar’s Superstar’s award from a selection of car shows around Australia, this ensures only the pinnacle in customs cars are in the running for the coveted “Best Of Breed” titles.
While the “Superstars” were the headliners, there were many other second tier displays and titles to be won. The drag racing scene all ways has a high profile at the event and this year’s display seemed to feature more drag cars than ever before, a testimony to the quality of race vehicles now racing.
Here is a list of the major winners and highlights.
Wayne & Diane McLaughlin’s 1956 F100 won the Superstar Best of Breed Street Machine title along with best Bodywork, Engine & Components awards.
Mick Fabar won the equivalent Superstar Best of Breed Hot Rod award along with the Impact and Image award for his 33 Ford Coupe.
Adam LeBrese won Australia’s most impressive Custom Car title for this stunning 1978 XC Hardtop, he also picked up best Paint Work and Overall Innovation titles.
Karen and Tom Keves grabbed the best Undercarriage and Driveline award for their HQ.
And Leisa & Shane Chinnocks’ XF Falcon won best Interior.
The show was not just about the Superstar entrants, there was a huge range of custom cars, club displays and choppers vying for their own titles.
Steve McKay’s 1932 Roadster picked up the Street Elite Showcase best Hot Rod title
Howard Astill scored the Street Elite Showcase best Street Machine award along with best Body Work.
The Street Elite Showcase best Tuner award went to Chris Vella’s Prelude along with best Interior
Queen St Racing proprietor Mohammed Ibrahim’s Ferrari 360 Spyder won the Street Elite Showcase best Custom Euro.
Adam Cleary’s behemoth of a Caddy won Street Elite Showcase best Custom Cruiser.
Mark Arblaster’s Pro Street Valiant won Street Elite Showcase best Engine Bay.
Another drag racer in Danny Makdessi won Street Elite Showcase best Paintwork for his R100
Rob Beauchamp’s pure sex Nova won Street Elite Showcase best Engineering and Design & Execution.
Stephen Gorsevski’s twin turbo LC won best Competition/Pro car.
There was much more automobile goodness on display.
The star of the show was this $2.2 million dollar twin turbo 860HP Konigsegg CCX, the super car has a terminal speed of 417kmph and goes to 100kmph in 2.9 seconds.
At the opposite end of the automobile spectrum a genuine replica of the famous So-Cal Roadster, the chassis was built in California by the famed So-Cal speed shop before being completed in Australia.
Epic!, one of America’ most famous cars, the 1953 Cadillac “Marilyn” built by John D’Agostino, it even has even been recreated by Hot Wheels.
The NSW Supercharged Outlaws club had their own display with Dave McGaw and Jim Holley’s funny cars.
Several of Sydney’s VW drag cars had a neat setup.
Just a gorgeous custom Corvette.
Anthony Caronna’s yet to debut Capri.
Queen St Racing have added a 24 carat Chopper to complement the gold plated BMW.
Travis Connor’s blown LC now all black was one of many drag cars on display.
