More than 130 racers hit Ipswich’s Willowbank Raceway at the weekend for round three of the Nitro Magazine South Queensland Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series.

There was plenty of action across all of the categories of racing for the penultimate round of the series, with wins going to Peter Duffy of Goodna in Andrews Affordable Mowing Classic, Matthew Loy of Warwick (Cosmic Enterprises Junior Dragster), Kerstyn Dance of Palmwoods (RD William Excavator Parts Modified), Ken Greenough of Agnes Water (Hdbitz Modified Bike), Judy Pukis of Coorparoo (Allstar Batteries Super Sedan) and Lyn Stewart of Westbrook (John William Auto Sales Super Street).

Peter Duffy took the win at the weekend in the Classic bracket to take the title lead for the bracket
Willowbank Raceway president John Winterburn is the driving force behind the eighth mile series, which is enjoying its inaugural year of competition.

“This was the first time that Willowbank Raceway had hosted a complete eighth mile drag racing event and I have to say that the results were nothing short of fantastic,” said Winterburn.

“More than 130 sportsman racers were here on the day and the atmosphere at the track reflected just what this series is all about – having fun and enjoying great racing.

“With the weekend’s racing now run and won, its all down to the Grand Finale which will be held at Bernaraby Raceway in September – and I for one can’t wait to see how it all plays out!”

The Grand Finale comes after three rounds of racing, starting at Warwick Dragway back in March, followed by round two at Warwick in May and Willowbank’s round three at the weekend. The Grand Final will be hosted by each track on a rotational basis year by year.

Special Winner and Runner-Up trophies will be available for each bracket at each round, with the Grand Finals to see a special Winner trophy plus $750 prize money awarded to the highest point scorer of each bracket, and a special Runner-Up trophy and $250 go to the second highest point scorer of each bracket.

Currently leading the series title points are Peter Duffy (Andrews Affordable Mowing Classic), Laurie Fitzgerald (R D Williams Excavator Parts Modified), Jakim Wong (Cosmic Enterprises Junior Dragster), Ken Greenough (H D Bitz Modified Bike), Scott Sorrenson (Allstar Batteries Super Sedan) and Steve Cay(John William Auto Sales Super Street).
