For many, Easter conjures up thoughts of brightly coloured Easter eggs and chocolate, At this weekend’s Santo’s Cranes Super 3 event at Willowbank Raceway, QLD, Brisbane’s Steve Read is chasing another bright object – the win light.

For ‘The Pom’ and his opposition, it won’t come easy – there’s an NHRA Top Fuel champion amongst the field ready to take the Australian teams to task.

“We’re ready”, said Read, matter of factly. “Larry Dixon is a very experienced driver with a track record that is second to none. He also has Lee Beard in his corner – one of the world’s most accomplished nitro tuners. To us, it’s all about the home-track advantage, and we need to make it count”.

Read’s campaign for the event title kicks off at 5pm on Friday, 29th March in the 3 round format, on a track that has given the Read Speed Racing team mixed results in the past.

“We ran a 4.69 here at the 2012 Winternationals, and we’re confident that we can string together the numbers needed to put ourselves in contention this weekend”, Read explained. “There’s no easy breaks in this weekend’s line-up, and the opportunity to run alongside Dixon is something that I’m looking forward to”.

“I raced for Santo for 11 years, and although I never got to meet Louie, it would be an honour to win the Louie Rapisarda memorial trophy this weekend”, Read said.

Read’s Easter campaign is also a case of “something old, something new”.

“Something old” – we’re going back to the old magnesium injector hat for this one race, while the carbon fibre one is repaired after we found some wear in it during our warm-up last weekend, resulting in a higher idle”, Read said. “Despite being an old style hat that isn’t used in Top Fuel any more, it has still taken us to a couple of our quickest runs ever, including the 4.68 when we debuted this car”.

“Something new” is that we are launching our brand new website – www.readspeedracing.com, which I’m very excited about. Up until now, we’ve reached out to our fans via Facebook, which still remains a fantastic tool to communicate with everyone, but adding the new website will allow us to have our own space on the web to promote what we do and share the story of Read Speed Racing”, Read concluded.

Read hopes that this weekend’s story includes a trip to the winner’s circle at his home track.
