On Sunday 15 September 2013 the first GM Mania – celebrating all things General Motors – will be held at Willowbank Raceway, with support already building for the inaugural event.
Set to feature more than 40 vehicles on the day is the HSV Owners Club, which has thrown its support behind the fledging show and is encouraging other car clubs to do the same.

Club President of the HSV Owners Club Inc Les Gray said that the GM Mania event represented a ‘must-attend’ for the club.

“We participate in events all across South East Queensland and when we  heard about GM Mania, which celebrates all things ‘General Motors’ –  where all of our much loved vehicles have originated from – we just had to get involved,” said Gray.

“Our club was formed in 1982 and has an average financial membership of more than 150 members. We attend small to large events, from events in support of a ‘local cause’, right through to major events such as RACQ Motorfest, and as recently as last year – the HSV Nationals 2012, which the club was very proud to fund and stage at the RNA showgrounds and Willowbank Raceway.

“Events such as these are a great way for like-minded owners to show off their pride and joy and spend the day chatting, comparing notes, and envying each other’s handy work with their vehicles, all in a family friendly and safe environment such as Willowbank Raceway.

“GM Mania really is a great opportunity for other GM orientated clubs to do the same and join in on the day. You will be given a fantastic opportunity to showcase your club to potential members and also display your stunning club vehicles, so I can’t encourage my fellow clubs enough to get involved.”

As part of their involvement, the HSV Owners Club will bring a wide array of GM vehicles to GM Mania, and perhaps, even a few former race cars of GM origin.

“We expect to have at least 40 club vehicles on display ranging from early HSV/HDT, right through to the current Gen-F HSV,” said Gray.

“With fine weather forecast we also anticipate a couple of former race cars of GM origin to join our display and some club vehicles get on-track for some runs on the Willowbank drag strip during the course of the day, which is bound to spark a few ‘power’ debates between enthusiasts.

“Events such as these always provide a great family day out with an unrivaled display of stunning vehicles all in one location, so we urge any GM orientated club and the general public to find their way to Willowbank on September 15 for a great day out!”

Clubs interested in participating in GM Mania are encouraged to contact Willowbank Raceway’s Tracey Fletcher on tracey@willowbank-raceway.com.au to register your expression of interest so Willowbank Raceway can reserve the right amount of space for your display – remember, the club with the most outstanding display will be awarded a trophy on the day. Please note, pre-payment is not required however all club members must pay the appropriate fees on the day. Manufacturers or other entities interested in taking part can also contact Tracey Fletcher for more information.
